CBRC and KAU Collaborate to sign a research agreement on The Role of Gut Microbes in Development of Malignant Pancreatic Cysts in Saudi Patients

Aug 01, 2019

The Computational Bioscience Research Center (CBRC) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and GI Oncology Unit (GIOU) of King Abdulaziz University Hospital at King Abdulaziz University, have signed a research agreement on “The Role of Gut Microbes in Development of Malignant Pancreatic Cysts in Saudi Patients.”

The collaborative research is funded through KAUST Center Partnership Funds. To the best of our knowledge, the research is the first one in the Kingdom to use Medical Metagenomics in clinical pancreatic cancer research. The study aims to investigate if microbial communities in pancreatic cysts can differentiate cysts that turn into a malignant form from those that remain benign.

The successful outcomes could open the way to novel diagnostic methods of pancreatic malignancies and more closer precision medicine. Principal investigator at GIOU is Assistant Professor Emah S. Aljahdli, and CBRC Principal investigator is Professor Vladimir Bajic.

Marine Metagenomics, “presents the state-of-art marine metagenome research and explains the method of marine metagenomics analysis in an easy-to-understand manner.”

This book presents the state-of-art marine metagenome research and explains the method of marine metagenomic analysis in an easy-to-understand manner.

Changes in the marine environment due to global warming and pollution have become a major global problem. Maintaining a healthy marine ecosystem requires advanced environmental monitoring and assessment systems. As such, the book presents a novel metagenomic monitoring method, which has been developed for comprehensive analyses of the DNA of microorganisms living in seawater to further our understanding of the dynamics of the marine environment. The book can be used as a primer for new researchers and as a manual on experimental methods.
