Aug 21 2019

Sumyyah Toonsi, a student under the supervision of Professor Robert Hoehndorf, defended her Master's thesis on August 21, 2019.

Her topic, "Automatic Protein Function Annotation Through Text Mining", Sumyyah developed a novel, dictionary-
based method to annotate proteins with functions from text. She also extracted text-based
features from words matched against a dictionary of Gene Ontology terms. Her thesis was well received by defense committee members Professor Mikhail Moshkov, Professor Robert Hoehndorf and Professor Vladimir Bajic.
