CBRC Seminar I Research and Application of Data Mining Technology for Intelligent Education

Recently, massive educational data (e.g., student exercising records) have been accumulated, providing an access to the development of data-driven intelligent education. However, existing models are difficult to accurately analyze the academic level of students and extract meaningful features of exercises from the massive, sparse and noisy student learning data, and meanwhile, they consider less about the personalized demands of both students and teachers. Therefore, the results of the analysis could not be directly applied in some real-world scenarios, such as helping students' learning or improve teachers' teaching. To address these problems, we developed a series of research for intelligent education combined with both data mining technology and education domain knowledge, aiming to improve students' academic level and assist teachers' teaching. Our works have been published on top conferences, such as IJCAI, AAAI and CIKM, and also applied in "Zhixue.com", an online learning system by iFLYTEK. 

Dr. Enhong Chen is currently a Professor and vice dean of School of Computer Science of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the vice director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Speech and Language Information Processing of USTC, and the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China (2013). Also, he is an IEEE senior member since 2007, and the director of the Lab of Semantic Computing and Data Mining in USTC.
His research interests include data mining and machine learning, social network analysis and recommender systems. He has published prolifically in refereed journals and conferences, including IEEE TKDE, TMC, TKDD, TIST, IJCAI, AAAI, KDD, ICDM, NIPS, ICDM, CIKM and Nature Communications. He is an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems. He was on program committees of numerous conferences including IJCAI, KDD, ICDM, SDM. He received the Best Application Paper Award on KDD'08, Best Research Paper Award on ICDM'11 and Best of SDM 2015 Award on SDM'15. He has graduated many Ph.D. students and some of them have been recruited by famous research institutes like Institute of Deep Learning of Baidu, or become faculties in universities like USTC and Hefei University of Technology.
